Philip is a recognized design leader in the Pacific Northwest. His 30+ years of care and innovation in architecture and interiors brings a wealth of know how and talent to Space + Craft.
After starting his career as an associate with the Miller/Hull Partnership in Seattle, Philip founded Arellano/Christofides Architects with his wife, Margot Arellano in 1994. Over a 20-year span, they broke new ground in multi-family, restaurant, mixed use, and custom single-family home design. The firm took great pride and pleasure in the range of projects they tackled. The firm was published in numerous shelter magazines and earned recognition from a variety of organizations.
Single Family homes from that period were published in the Seattle Times, Sunset and Home Magazine to name a few. The Lake Union Lofts, Tieton Lofts, Columbia City Live Aboves, and Samaki Commons set new directions in Multi Family, mixed use and affordable housing design. The Lake Union Lofts received a Seattle Times home of the year award, and the Columbia City Live Aboves was recognized by the City of Seattle and The Northwest Masonry Institute to name a few. At the same time, the firm designed numerous restaurants ranging from the El Gauchos and Aqua to Cactus Bellevue and Terra Plata.
In 2014, Philip headed in a new direction, taking a position as Director of Concept design for Starbucks Coffee Company. For 3 years, Philip initiated prototype designs across the continent, in locations such as New York, Chicago, and Toronto. Philip also drove industrial design with updated equipment and fixture designs as well as new store formats. Relocating to San Francisco in 2016, He followed up with 2 years as Design Director for the West, leading a studio that worked from San Francisco through Las Vegas, Denver, Albuquerque, and all points in between.
After 5 years in based in San Francisco, Philip, and Margot happily relocated to Walla Walla.
Along with Space + Craft, Philip is the designer and a founding partner of the Walla Walla Steak Company/Crossbuck Brewing located in the historic Great Northern Train station.
